Craniosacral Therapy

A Subtle Approach to Nervous System Regulation

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on technique that works with the craniosacral system—the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Using light touch, CST helps facilitate the body’s self-correcting mechanisms, supporting nervous system balance and releasing restrictions in the fascia and connective tissues.

Unlike traditional massage, CST does not target muscle groups or use deep pressure. Instead, it engages with the body’s internal rhythms to promote relaxation, reduce pain, and improve overall physiological function.

What to Expect

Sessions are performed with the client fully clothed and lying on a massage table. The therapist applies subtle, sustained pressure—often no more than five grams—to key areas such as the skull, sacrum, spine, and diaphragm. This work helps identify and ease areas of restriction or imbalance within the craniosacral system.

Clients may experience sensations such as warmth, soft tissue release, or a shift in their breathing patterns. Others may simply notice a sense of stillness or calm. Because CST engages with the parasympathetic nervous system, sessions often promote deep relaxation and may support long-term regulation of stress responses.

Clinical Applications

Craniosacral therapy is increasingly used as a complementary approach for conditions involving chronic tension, nervous system dysregulation, and connective tissue restriction. While individual responses vary, CST may be beneficial for:

  • Migraine and tension headaches

  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction

  • Anxiety and general stress

  • Neck and low back discomfort

  • Sleep disturbances
